
Three days before Walnut Grove Buddhist Church’s Minister’s Assistant Roy Mayhugh would take his first trip to Japan for his Tokudo (ministerial training) in Kyoto, the church’s Sonenkai held a golf tournament fundraiser on Oct. 6 at the YochaDehe Golf Course at Cache Creek Casino to help offset some of Mayhugh’s travel expenses.
Forty-eight players teed off at the picture-perfect weather condition playing a best-ball format. Some players were concerned that rain or inclement weather would prevail as earlier forecast predicted rain and thunder.
Players with a golf index played in Flight A. The winner of Flight A was the team of Aki Ito, Andy Rembulat, Dan Olaivar, and Justin Ito.
Second place went to the team of Steve Sakata, Karl Ogata, Lester Suzuki, and Ron Yamaguchi.
Third place was awarded to the team of Dennis Hashimoto, Richard Kawabata, Harold Yamauchi, and Ron Kubo.
Flight B players used the Peoria handicap scoring. First place went to the team of Steven Harvey, Ron Kirkholz, Rev. Katsuya Kusunoki, and Geof Hiromoto.
Second place winners were Jim Babcock, Michael Linn Kidwell, David Ito, and Bill Ito.
Third place winners were Willie Toyama, Steve Egi, Dan Ito, and Stan Ito.
This year’s tournament committee members consisted of Aki Ito, Priscilla Ito, Ken Sano, Steve Hiromoto, and Virgil Norman.
